A Journey Through the History of Film
Greetings everyone! I’m not sure if you are aware of it but we are coming up on the 125th anniversary of cinema in 2020 which I believe is a very momentous occasion. In honor of this historic event I am going to watch 45 of film’s best works over the course of the next year and blog about how film has changed or not changed since its beginning. Pope John Paul 2 released this list of films approved by the Vatican on March 17, 1995 as a way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of cinema that year. In his own words the pope said, “The film industry has become a universal medium exercising a profound influence on the development of people’s attitudes and choices, and possessing a remarkable ability to influence public opinion and culture across all social and political frontiers.” This is still very true in today’s society but unfortunately the quality of film has gone down hill significantly since its golden age.
